Today would have been Christopher Wallace’s 41st birthday and my oh my how times have changed. We’ve gone from shiny suits, real lyricism and the hard hitting grittiness of BK, NY to ‘bandz a make her dance’ (no hate, just saying).
But Biggie Small’s influenced a generation, we can only wonder how the world of Hip-Hop would be if he was still here? Below we have put together a list of ‘What Ifs?’;
Would Shyne Po have blown up?
Would we have seen the collation of Big, Jay-Z & Nas in New York City?
Would Diddy have made that God awful ‘Last Train To Paris’ album?
Would Lil Kim and Big ever get it together?
Would New York have ever fallen off?
Feel free to pitch in your own ‘What Ifs’ in the comment section below!
Today, we celebrate the life and times of one of the greatest MC’s to bless the microphone.
The video for the latest single from Action Bronson ‘Strictly for my Jeeps’. This is one crazy montage of randomness! Amongst all of that, is a fierce rapper destroying the mic with energy and that slamming, true skool flow of Hip Hop rhymes.
Action Bronson is also doing a gig in London on Friday 7th June at Koko. When I attended his gig last year, he was mental on stage, launching himself into the crowds and moshpitting enough times. I have no doubt he will do the same again at this show!
A hard working champion of productions of UK Hip Hop over the years, The Last Skeptik drops his new album of pure lively beats on the legendary BBE Record label. This track is off that album and features Jehst with a whole raft of well known cameos in the video. Jehst does good over this vintage, historic sounding hook, and is representative of the definition of this album with a range of old skool, motown, soul influenced hooks sampled up for wicked beats.

Out of all the refreshing output of deep house sounds that is currently enjoying a resurgence at present, thanks to the likes of Dusky, Ejeca, Duke Dumont etc… this is another new joint that fits in perfectly amongst that musical landscape. From producer Mellzo, this is a flavour of his forthcoming new EP ‘From The Edge’. This will follow up on his two previous EP’s (‘From The Depths’ and ‘From The Shadows’), which showcased a superior work ethic in mixing up dark and menacing atmospherics along with snappy basslines and well rounded dance productions. Great to see how all of that shines through again with promise, on this new track.
